The Laredo Center for the Arts, in collaboration with Presa House Gallery, would like to invite the community to a very special exhibition.

Yonke EncontraDOS brings together artists Ruben Luna and Gil Rocha in an evolving exhibition shaped by place, improvisation, and exchange. Through individual and collaborative works, the artists celebrate the ingenuity, humor, and resilience of border culture.

Yonke EncontraDOS: Rasquache Art & Found Object Workshop with Gil Rocha

Join us for a hands-on creative workshop inspired by Yonke EncontraDOS, the collaborative exhibition by artists Gil Rocha and Ruben Luna (Gacho Style). Drawing from the tradition of rasquachismo a resourceful and inventive approach to making art from everyday materials participants will explore how found objects can hold memories, tell stories, and become works of art.

Throughout the workshop, attendees will engage in three creative activities that transform discarded and personal objects into meaningful artworks. Participants will distress photographs to create memory-based pieces, experiment with layered mixed-media techniques, and build their own found-object assemblage inspired by the visual language of the exhibition.

This workshop encourages participants to reflect on the histories, emotions, and experiences attached to ordinary objects while discovering new possibilities for creative reuse and artistic expression. No prior art experience is necessary.

Participants are encouraged to bring three small weathered, worn, or previously used objects from home that they are comfortable altering or incorporating into an artwork.
